Today I am starting a new feature for my blog- Traditional Thursday and Modern Monday. I quilt for both Traditional quilters and Modern ones and would like to share great things about both styles. I give a program “Classic with a Modern Twist” that talks about the characteristics that both genres share and what makes them different. I looking forward to sharing some of these ideas with you.
This is a traditional snail trail design done in batiks. I quilted this quilt with very dense straight line quilting that echos the angles of the curves in the neutral sections. The small squares that form the designs on the curves are machined appliqued with monofilament thread. The designs are echo quilted and have a paisley quilting pattern to finish out the colored areas. This quilt was pieced and appliqued by Jan Kramme and was a first place winner in the Small Bed Machine Quilted category at the 2013 Northland Needlers Quilt Show.
